How to make a scroll spy connect to nav elements?

This is a page that freecodecamp gives their students to copy for practice. https://codepen.io/freeCodeCamp/full/YqLyXB

I am almost done, but I forgot how to implement the scroll spy so that when you are over a certain area of the page, the appropriate nav element changes the style. Isn't there a part of a course here on Treehouse that goes over scroll spies? Is javascript required here?

Any other online resources that would help me with this? Thanks you guys :D
