how many nodes you need to perform an insertBefore()

why did i get "You need the parent, the sibling and the reference to the node you want to insert." when I answered that we need two nodes. I thought we only needed the parent and the perviousElementSibling nodes. can someone explain what "reference to the node you want to insert" is and what it mean? Thanks a lot
