How do you get the right value to return?

I think I'm almost there but I'm not sure how to write the return part of the program...

item.py
# EXAMPLE
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"
import random
def random_item(word):
  if random.randint(0, len(word))-1:
    return randint[]

You are on the right track.

import random

# create a function named random_item that takes a single argument, an iterable.
def random_item(word):
    # Then use random.randint() to get a random number between 0 and the length of the iterable, minus one.
    index = random.randint(0, len(word)-1)
    # Return the iterable member that's at your random number's index.
    return word[index]
