How do image compressors work?

Usually I use a lot online compressor tools like: Tiny PNG (https://tinypng.com/) Compressor (https://compressor.io/)

What is the downside of using them and what is the main difference between this option and the one that nick just presented?

The download side to using image compression it becomes lossy. it loses quality. That's why you just set the quality to 60. You lose lots of colors.

Compression is just to make files load faster in web browsers and mobile because imagine downloading 8mb 4k image file onto your phone. It's gonna lag. lols plus i don't think the phone can handle that amount of memory on it's system memory DRAM.

check this course and learn about svgs creating responsive vector graphics. As for photography pictures well you have to compress them. No way around that. That's photoshop and lightroom.
