You need to set the class attribute to social-links, not the href attribute:

    <a href="#" class="social-links">Follow me on Twitter!</a>
    <a href="#" class="social-links">Send me an Email!</a>

The href attribute is where the link would go (e.g. "http://twitter.com/someuser"), but # is often used as a placeholder when the link hasn't been added yet.
