How do i add string variables

whats wrong with this syntax

total = ("current_count"+"upcoming_realeases")

i could not figure out whats wrong with this, so i used the numbers in the exercise instead.

total = (14+2)

delete.py
current_count = 14
planned = 5
upcoming_releases = 2

they are not strings they are variablesm

current_count = 14
planned = 5
upcoming_releases = 2
del planned
total = current_count + upcoming_releases
