We combine string in JavaScript by using the + sign. You want to add both toUpperCase() method on both id and lastName and keep the hash # (quotation around the hash) in the middle of the code like this.

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' +  lastName.toUpperCase();

The quiz question is asking you to make everything all upper case, and it looks like you've only made the id uppercase. I think this is the root of your problem.

Abraham's approach looks fine to me! When I solved this problem, I first made lastName.toUpperCase(); and then started using += on userName so that I could get practice with +=.
