MySQL said: Documentation

2002 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

The server is not responding (or the local server's socket is not correctly configured).

I'm guessing either your hostname, login, or port are incorrect. What settings do you have for these?

Hi Julina,

Try this link: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8388962/php-mysqlno-connection-could-be-made

Also most webhosting companies have build in Wordpress installer. Let me know if this helps.

would this work when I'm just trying to setup wordpress locally for the treehouse lesson

...I don't know. I'll take a look at the tutorial I have always installed it on a server. I have never tried to do it locally.

I got this error too. If your on windows go to Xampp and click start MySQL then it should work.

yeah I did that and it says access denied

do you get this error right after u enter root for the username and password?

If so I just put in the username as root and left the password blank and it worked

+1 Try what Andre's suggestion first before starting over.

but if i press on the admin button for apache the shirts 4 mike website will show up

I hate to say this but maybe you should delete what you have an start over. I was unsuccessful at replicating error message that you are getting.

but what do I delete I didnt even really get started with wordpress. should i reinstall xampp
