help me with understanding what's happening

Do I need to go through the git basics(186 mins) course first to understand this 23 minute course? Secondly, I tried initializing local repository it is showing THE PATH CANNOT BE FOUND, then I somehow added it but now it is showing ( modified: index.html) and no other files and after applying git add. it is showing me (git: 'add.' is not a git command. See 'git --help'.) what should I do? What is remote repository. I am stuck at the accessibility course for 3 days just because of this git hosting course
