help me understand this more correctlt plz.

in this video, var guess is getRandomNumber and var randomNumber is also getRandomNumber. so when the function runs to get the random number, isnt the random number for both var randomNumber and var guess should be the same?

The whole point of "getRandomNumber" is that every time you call it you get a new random number. There's a very small chance (based on the "upper" argument) that you could get the same value twice in a row, but most likely it will take many tries to get the same number again.

The program is designed to tell you how many times it takes when you run it.
