git commit -m not working?

When I attempt the git commit for the first time, I am getting this error.

treehouse:~/workspace/medals$ git commit -m "Add main site page"
On branch master
nothing to commit, working directory clean
treehouse:~/workspace/medals$

Any ideas?

try first adding your files to git before commiting

try: git add . then git commit -m "Add main site page"
