JavaScript AJAX Basics (retiring) AJAX Concepts A Simple AJAX Example

example 1 does not work. a-simple-ajax-example WORKSPACES

I just tried to run the example1.html provided in the Workspaces with preview. I get the response object but it does not populate the HTML. Im using chrome but i also tried in iceweasel. My os is Debian.
