Every time I restart VSC, when I type in '$ npm start' into the bash terminal, I get an ELIFECYCLE error. how do I fix?

in order to make react run in my browser I have to run: $ npm cache clean --force $ rm -rf node_modules package-lock.json $ npm install $ npm start

This fixes it, but when I close and reopen VSC, I have the same issue again, and need to do the above fixes again. Is there something wrong with my VSC setup that is causing this?
