Embedded Elements: video not displaying

Using the old embedded code, chrome doesn't seem to recognize there should be an embedded element on the page, and when I use the modern embedded code, chrome attempts to link to it and then displays it as broken, I copied the code exactly as was instructed by the video into my text editor. Any suggestions on how to make the embedded object run properly?

It would help to see your html.

<!doctype html> <html lang="e"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>My page</title> </head> <body>

    <object width="560" height="315">
        <param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/eeHJoxhT8Yw?hl=en_US&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/eeHJoxhT8Yw?hl=en_US&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>
</object>
</body>

</html>

Are you using 'TextEdit' for your code? I was having the same issue and tested it out via Plunker and the video shows up there. Not sure the reasoning why it wont show from a textedit file.
