Do social media plugins increase SEO? Are they crawlable?

My clients often post their content to facebook or twitter and don't want to publish the same content twice. Therefore, if I were to add a plug-in like the one linked below to their site, would search engines rank the site higher for 'freshness' and updated content if my clients were to post regularly to their facebook page and consequently, by use of this plug-in, their website?

It's doubtful Google will treat the embedded parts of the page as fresh content ... depending on how the plugin works it may not even crawl the embedded regions at all.
