Do I have to purchase software or programs to study "Tracks" & "Techdegree's"?

I understand that there are some extra costs involved in the "Game Development "Tracks"...Can anyone please tell me what these cost's involve ? ( Purchasing Software or Programs etc ? )

What about A "Techdegree" ?

What are they called ? ( Maya, Unity Engine etc...)

Unity is free.

And to my knowledge, everything used by the courses that is not free (such as Maya) has a free trial that should last long enough to complete the course.
