CSS selectors

Why can't we just always use substring matching attribute selectors or structural pseudo-classes instead of id's and classes?

Most of the time, it will be your choice as to what kind of selector you want to use. But it's always good to know what choices you have, and ID and class selectors are both more likely to give improved performance.

As you continue through the courses, you'll also find that class selectors can be used in ways that make them particularly handy, plus they tend to make your code easier to read and maintain.
