import re

string = '''Love, Kenneth, kenneth+challenge@teamtreehouse.com, 555-555-5555, @kennethlove
Chalkley, Andrew, andrew@teamtreehouse.co.uk, 555-555-5556, @chalkers
McFarland, Dave, dave.mcfarland@teamtreehouse.com, 555-555-5557, @davemcfarland
Kesten, Joy, joy@teamtreehouse.com, 555-555-5558, @joykesten'''

contacts = re.search(r'(?P<email>[\w]+?[+]?[\w]+@[\w]+.[\w]+) (?P<phone>[\d]+-[\d]+-[\d]+)',string)

I remember I answered a similar question yesterday; so I copied some of the content over here.

You also need to consider the comma and space in between email and phone number.

The problem description says that

The comma and spaces * should not* be part of the groups.

but that doesn't mean they aren't part of the regular expression; you still need to match against them, but outside of the group.

contacts = re.search(r'(?P<email>[\w]+?[+]?[\w]+@[\w]+.[\w]+).\s+(?P<phone>[\d]+-[\d]+-[\d]+)',string)
