Confusion on scopes @ 8:30

dispenser.characterName = "Darth Vader";

Craig typed that line to assign "Darth Vader" to the Java field of dispenser.characterName. Since the Object is considered an instance, which scope is being targeted? My thought is that dispenser is its own instance Object, so this would be outside the Class PezDispenser() scope.

The characterName field is accessible from the dispenser instance outside the class, therefore it is modifiable.
