Conditional Statements

The question states ('lion' > zebra') and asks whether its true or false. so i selected True because the first letter of Lion "L" comes before the first Letter of Zebra "Z" in the alphabet. However the answer was checked and it showed that i was wrong by the system. Why?

Well done! When comparing strings, the first letter of the first string is compared to the first letter of the second string. Since 'l' comes before 'z' in the alphabet, 'lion' is not greater than 'zebra.'

Hi Mirali,

The question is asking whether "lion" is greater than "zebra". the values being compared are the ASCII codes for the letters. "l" has a code lower than that of "z", so it is not "greater than".

You can have a look a this ASCII table or just Google one you may prefer better.
