Component tree

I accidentally closed my component tree tab and when I go to view>tool windows the component tree is greyed out so I can't click on it. How do I re-open the component tree?

Is there not a tab for it down near the 'design'/'text' tabs at the bottom of your layout (while being on the 'design' tab)? I just collapsed mine, and that seems to be where it went.

I'm using AS 2.3.3. I had to go to the little box in the left corner, then "Structure" (there was no "Design" option). After that, I saw a vertical button for "Component Tree." Then I had to switch from the new default ConstraintLayout -to a relative layout using the instructions in the answer at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/42261712/how-to-switch-from-the-default-constraintlayout-to-relativelayout-in-android-stu. Go the bottom of the property panel & click on "see all properties" to get the background property.
