I don't understand what is the problem with my code. can someone that succeeded doing this task show his code? thanks!

fuelLevel = getIntent().getIntExtra("FUEL_LEVEL", 1);
in java you can't put a int declaration after an equal sign, the getIntExtra method comes from the Intent object so you need to call getIntent first. Assuming you've added the extra correctly in the previous intent
