Can I make an online ordering system for restaurants/takeaways with WordPress? Can I freelance like this?

Hi, everyone!

  1. I have a few questions I would like to discuss, is it possible to create an online ordering system with WordPress?

  2. I know WordPress has many plugins/frameworks that allow similar things like building an eCommerce store but what about an online ordering system for restaurants, is it possible?

  3. Do you think WordPress is the right solution for this kind of application?

  4. Is an online ordering system considered a very big project or heavy duty work?

  5. Does it require a large team of experienced developers?

  6. Would you call an expensive web agency to make this?

  7. If it's possible to do it in WordPress, can I freelance from this? I'm asking this is because there are a lot of small businesses in my local area that own restaurant/takeaways, and many of them don't have websites, and the ones that do aren't so great.

I appreciate any kind of feedback or advice, please feel free to share your thoughts! Thanks.

  1. Yeah, id guess soo. E-commerce?
  2. I guess about yes, on that too.
  3. Yeah, why not. It depends on it too id guess. WP is easy and simple.
  4. I think theres quite a bit of work into it to build an e-commerce site, but to build a restaurant site? well, id guess it depends on the feature, but i don't think it is. I can't htink about nothing more complicated than ordering system or reservations.
  5. I don't know, can you do it?
  6. I guess, agency looks better, and they charger a lot more, like 10k? they have designers specifically for it etc.. a small business with small budget, or a big business could go to you. But this is business, it has nothign to do with the code. This is business. If ur good at it, then u can make money off it, if ur bad at business then.. Bill Gates didn't earn that much money because he knows how to code, but because of business.
  7. Well, heres my site , 100% made from me here and now im doing a new one, whcih today or tomorrow shodl be online(hopefully). this is very easy, takes 2-3days to do the HTML/CSS, jQuery and UI, and then like a day to do WP. But e-commerce longer i suppose.

Im trying to do the same thing as you. But first i want to get a bit more sample sites. Then id need to work on my presentation skill and things like that..

Thanks for your response, glad to see I'm not the only one. You have a very interesting website, is your website mixed with WordPress combined with your own hand-written code?

  1. Do you think I can use WooCommerce and modify it into an ordering system?
  2. I noticed a lot of bigger franchises use expensive monitors, cables, computers, and machinery for their online ordering system, from what I see its mixed with desktop and web applications, how did they integrate their application onto a TV screen? Who did they go to for setting up their systems? Web agencies? freelancers?
  3. If I started freelancing for small businesses, how would I connect their devices with my WordPress application?

I wrote the HTML/CSS, used Bootstrap and a lil jQuery, yes. Strangelly the second site expired few hours ago lol.. And i then wrote WordPress code.

  1. I think that you can modify the theme, but i think not for sell. You need to check the law on that theme. But im sure you can't modify it and just sell it, i guess( people would make thousands in a day i believe lol - and its not their work anyways).

  2. Um? im not sure what do you mean.

  3. WordPress is online. So i guess ud just have to go to the wordpress etc..

Have you completed some of the videos here at treehouse about WP? like from bootstrap to WP? these are relally good to get the head around it.
