item.amount = 100
var taxes = calculateTaxes(percentage: 7.5)

You don't need the percentage:
keyword in the call to calculateTaxes
.
If you remove that on your last line as well as call the method on the item
object.
var taxes = item.calculateTaxes(7.5)
it should work fine.
