Baseline theme for Theme Development course

I'm confused. In order to make progress through the Treehouse WordPress Theme Development course, is it required to purchase the Appdev - Mobile App Showcase WordPress Theme from ThemeForest?

It looks as if this must be what is expected, based on what is shown in the videos, and because later modules proceed by cutting and pasting from various files that are downloaded with this theme. If so, fair enough: it looks like a good theme that's designed to be built on. But then why is this requirement not made clear? And is it in fact a requirement, or for the purposes of the course will any downloaded theme do just as well, including the default free ones?

Please clarify...

By googling I think I found the answer, in a forum post from about a year ago. Under the first video in the first module there is a "Project Files" download link for the zip file that is referenced a few videos later. The zip contains several directories, including final-theme, which includes the complete treehouse-portfolio theme project, as well as other resource folders which are indirectly referenced later in the course.

Feeling much better now...
