Assigning a collection of an unordered list with an ID .

Ive tried attaching the id of 'rainbow' using document.getElementById but it didnt go through . Ive also tried using document.querySelector('#rainbow') which translates to the same thing ? But that didnt work either .

You are selecting the ul, not the individual li. Try this:

let listItems = document.getElementById("rainbow").getElementsByTagName("li");
const colors = ["#C2272D", "#F8931F", "#FFFF01", "#009245", "#0193D9", "#0C04ED", "#612F90"];

for(var i = 0; i < colors.length; i ++) {
  listItems[i].style.color = colors[i];    
}
