Design

Are you a designer looking for collaboration opportunities?

I've worked solo on projects for a long time now, collaborating with others only once or twice. I have reached the point where I can fully accept that my main skills lie more strongly on the development side of the webmosphere - I think I just invented that word, but I'm gonna roll with it :-)

I recently reached out locally for other web devs and designers with a view to building a small group of freelancers that could share in their geeky ways, helping each other out from time to time, and maybe actually collaborate on projects in the future - as well as drinking coffee. My local area doesn't really lend itself to forming that kind of group based on a small population, so I figured where better to look than where I do all my learning and skill updating - Treehouse!

Myself and another developer that I did manage to hook up with nearby (non-Treehouser) are VERY keen to try and tie up with a designer or two with a view to working on projects together. This isn't for any one specific project that has been taken on already, it's more to allow some flexibility looking forward and to meet and chat with like minded creatives. That being said, we do have ideas for a site/service or two that would only be possible with the additional input and enthusiasm by a person or people in a similar situation or with a similar mind set to us!

We are both experienced developers with a healthy mixture of frontend skills, WordPress and PHP. Both are based in neigbouring small towns in the North of Scotland, but we totally accept that the right people could be anywhere.

If your into designing websites and apps and might be interested in exploring any opportunities something like this might present, I would love to hear from you!

Hi Gordon,

I am a designer in the South East of England. I have been a designer for a year now working freelance. I am a design enthusiast and currently learning code so I can develop my own designs. This is a long road though however. I have actually been looking for some developers to work with as I miss the collaborating with other people to find solutions to problems in projects.

Cheers, Joe

Hi Joe,

I really like some of the work you have in your portfolio, nicely done! I notice you only have email and LinkedIn links on your site, I might fire you an email if you ain't on Twitter. As with Joe (below) I figured hooking up on Twitter might be a good way to get introductions out the way and keep in touch until I sort out a Slack channel or something similar.

Let me know the best way to get in touch, and if you are already hiding somewhere on Twitter you can find me @WinkingFrog :-)

Gordon!

Great to hear back from you. Yeah, I am nonexistent in the space of social media apart from Facebook (that I hardly use). I am probably hiding somewhere on twitter from an account years ago aha. I am well familiar with Slack and have used it in the past. Very useful and easy. For now, email or Linkedln is the quickest and best way to get in touch.

I have a couple of clients I am designing for at the moment. I am planning to code them myself but not with much confidence as I have just started learning. So maybe this could work both ways?

Cheers Gordon, Joe Horton

Hi Gordon,

This sounds like something I'd be interested in. I'm a freelance UI designer (marcushanda.co) based in the East Midlands, I currently work remotely for an agency based in San Diego but I've arranged it so I have enough hours each week to take on other projects if I wish.

Take a look at my website and let me know if you would like to talk further, in terms of long term communication with anybody you work with that isn't local I think Slack would be a good solution.

Thanks, Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your reply! I like the look of some of your case studies. I've followed you on Twitter so we can get in touch a little easier for now.

Oh, and yeah, Slack is my tool of choice also.

Let's see what happens from here... :-)
