6,540 PointsAndroid studios runs an emulator not a simulator that's why it is so system intensive. I always start the emulator first, let it do its thing then start to develop. I run it on a I5 with only 4GB of ram and still manage ok, I do find my iMac which is the same but it seems to run it better..

28,694 PointsAndroid studio uses a lot of resources and running the emulator especially. eg. The minimum amount of RAM for using it is, I think, 4GB. I have the same problem, so do as much testing as I can with my phone and just use the emulator for testing for tablets. (I shut down everything else running on my computer that consumes system resources in the hope the bottleneck is other programs or virtual memory. It's probably superstition as much as anything. You can look at stackoverflow or quora as these communities have a lot of actual android developers who might know the finer points of android studios settings).
