Alternative Photoshop Tools?

Hi guys, i want to follow the web designing course however i do not have adobe photoshop cc or illustrator. Subscription is expensive, any other alternative tools which will do the work?

You will be hard pressed to find something on the level of Photoshop for cheap/free, but GIMP is very good and probably the closest you'll find. The only issue with GIMP is that there is a pretty steep learning curve in order to get any good with it.
