adding pound sign, and upper case last name

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith"; var lastName = lastName.toUpperCase(); var userName = id + "#" + lastName;

isn't working.

Hi Jerry,

The reason your code isn't working is that you haven't converted the id to an uppercase version. As a result the value of userName is: "23188*xtr#SMITH" instead of "23188XTR*#SMITH".

You should change the assignment to userName as follows:

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName;
