/ for Home

Hello.

Could someone give me a quick overview of why the server needs to see a '/' to denote the Home route instead of "" (since users would not put '/' into their url for a home page). Is it just server convention?

/ is considered the root directory of the server. This convention comes from Unix/Linux file systems as far as I know.
