There are many ways to use information
legally on the Web,and it's important as
0:00
you build games, websites and
applications,
0:04
that you're respecting everyone's
intellectual and artistic property.
0:07
Here are just a few ways you can go about
doing this.
0:12
I'll show you how I found a new image for
our car.
0:16
I began by searching for
0:19
cars, and then clicking on images, so all
I could see were the image results.
0:20
And under Search tools, I looked for the
appropriate usage righ that I need for
0:26
this course, and that's a labelled for
reuse image.
0:31
I also know that I wanted a clipart, and
here it is.
0:35
When you click on the image, and then
visit the page, at the very bottom
0:42
of the page, it says, high quality, easy
to use, free support,
0:47
and I can see that it's a button, because
it changes colors when I hover over it.
0:53
[SOUND] So I'll click on that, and
0:57
it brings me to a page that says unlimited
commercial use.
1:00
And here I know that this is going to be a
fine image for me to use wherever I want.
1:05
If I go back to my image results, another
image I could have used is this one.
1:12
And if I visit the page for this image and
try and
1:20
find something that tells me about the
license, oh, here it is.
1:23
It says, Public domain which is a good
thing and when I click on that button,
1:28
it takes me to a creative commons licence.
1:34
And here it says, you can copy, modify,
distribute, and
1:37
perform this work even for commercial
purposes or without asking for permission.
1:41
Therefore, I know it's okay to use this
picture.
1:47
So, as I was saying, this page is part of
the creative commons website.
1:51
And if we go to the creative commons
website, you can
1:56
check out all of what the creative commons
has to offer.
2:01
I'll put a link in the teacher's notes in
case you want to check it
2:05
out a little bit further.
2:07
Keep in mind when you're searching for
images, sound files, or
2:10
even code, if it doesn't clearly say that
you're allowed to use it,
2:13
you should consider it to be off limits.
2:18
Don't assume that if there's no copyright,
2:21
that it's free to use because it's most
certainly not.
2:23
I've linked the Creative Commons website
in the teacher's notes under the video,
2:27
and it's a great tool to become familiar
with.
2:31
You've been doing great work so far.
2:34
But to earn your badge for this course,
you're going to wanna stick around for
2:36
a quick quiz on how to use intellectual
and artistic property in a respectful way.
