When I was little, I would get so
excited to try breakfast cereals that were
0:00
indorsed by my favorite Saturday
morning cartoon characters.
0:04
Now that I've grown,
I found that not too much has changed,
0:08
I still love a good testimonial.
0:13
A testimonial is a formal statement
testifying to someone's character and
0:16
qualifications.
0:21
That added credibility goes a long
way when you've got past clients' or
0:24
teammates' quotes in your portfolio.
0:29
Because it goes beyond your
own opinion of your work, and
0:32
it shows that you're in good standing
after the project was completed.
0:35
Let's take a peek at
Becca Urry's portfolio.
0:40
Becca was one of my interns a few summers
ago, and she's currently a terrifically
0:43
talented visual and UX designer at
the IBM San Francisco design studio.
0:48
Digging into her site,
we see her MetaOcean project.
0:54
Where her team worked directly with
MDAnderson Cancer Researchers.
0:58
Becca not only includes her process,
complete with personas, and user quotes.
1:02
But she also gives us testimonials
from her stakeholders.
1:08
A stakeholder is a person
with an interest or
1:12
concern in something,
especially a business.
1:15
Notice the variety in the quotes.
1:19
There is quite a bit of personality and
specificity to the project too.
1:21
One thing that would improve
these testimonials would be to
1:25
ask those project stakeholders to
provide metrics, for further feedback,
1:29
once the project has been launched.
1:33
These particular stakeholders
had to stay anonymous
1:35
due to the nature of the project.
1:39
So if your project allows for
either their names or
1:40
their specific roles,
then you should definitely call that out.
1:43
Getting these quotes can be fairly
straightforward, if you ask for them.
1:48
But it's worth noting that
timing could be everything.
1:52
Asking as soon as you present the project
1:56
will usually give you
the most in-depth feedback.
1:59
While asking a few weeks after the launch
will give you a more realistic picture
2:02
of how your stakeholders
are using your project.
2:07
Now that we've discussed the importance
of others' opinion of your efforts.
2:11
Lets move to the next video, where you
get to do a little bragging for yourself.
2:16
See you there.
