Filling the Portfolio Gaps

There’s a really good chance that while you’re deciding which entries to show that there may be an inaccurate depiction of the type of work you want to be doing. For example, you might want to show that you have an interest in front-end development but only have visual design work to show. This video will address how to identify those gaps.

New Terms:

  • Portfolio Gaps -- identifiable areas of a portfolio where a designer-developer shows opportunity for growth.

    In the mid 1970s, Shel Silverstein wrote the book The Missing Piece. 0:00

    Much like the circle in the story, you may see that there's something that seems 0:18

    Perhaps you notice your portfolio is missing entire swathes of your 0:37

    Or you've been excited about how your use of color 0:50

    If it's important enough for you to dedicate effort to, 0:56
    then it's likely important enough to call out somewhere, 0:59
    even if in a minor way in your collection of work. 1:03
    Here's a great way to identify those gaps. 1:06
    Make a list of all that you wanna emphasize in your portfolio and 1:10
    compare that list to the collection of work you've put together. 1:15
    Be very intentional with what you're putting on that list. 1:20
